This is another game I enjoyed quite a bit along with the sequel Forged Alliance. I actually participated in the beta test of it. Was my very first beta testing ever. (not FA though)... What intrigued me the most about this game was the fact that one could zoom out to see the whole of the map with the units just looking like dots and then zoom all the way to ground level and actually see the detail of the units. Before this, I don't think any other game had this capability other than zoom in and out to a certain extent. After a while Chris Taylor (dev.) released a mapper for the program, which to use, had a higher learning curve and complicated way of doing things. Mostly all the admin's and moderators that ran the EARTH 2160 site went over to the Supreme Commander Universe. Again, I say an awesome gathering of people. I presume one or several them made up an easy to read and follow guide on how to use the mapper with pictures, so once I got that, I began to do up maps for the game which were uploaded to the web site.
Aside from the capability to zoom in and out. On water included maps, the waves lapping on the beach's looked almost real.
The tank looking units had the tracks actually moving and turning, but my guess is that aspect was removed along with some other things that used up too much of the computers assets. This, to enable people who did not have a boss or high end computer to play the game.
One reason I think people got disappointed was that the dev's. were very slow to get updates out, I know I was. Other than that, I enjoyed playing the game very much even on my own maps. After writing this, I'm thinking of loading the game up again to play it.
