This is another game I play periodically even though it's another oldie. This one really blew my mind with it's graphics and the mechanics of game play. The EARTH engine (AI), I thought was amazing. It allowed me to play a game for approx 7 hours with out a let up one time.
The one problem I had was my computer was also an antique (IBM PS-1) and didn't have enough assets to play the game. Waited almost a year before being able to play the game. . Joined a web site called Earth 2160 Universe. Maybe ran by the people who started TA Universe, I don't know for sure. I do know the admin's/Moderators were of Eastern European nationality's and were again exceptionally helpful to it's members.
What amazed me the most was that just about all of them spoke and wrote several languages. German, Polish, French and some Russian along with English. So, I mean it was a site almost anyone could get help which was very nice. One fella, 'Space tug' was a great help to me and the site. He programed two mod's for the game that greatly enhanced game play ('SuperStorm' and 'Seige'), of which Super Storm is now included with the game. He also did quite a bit with the re-balance which made the game an exceptional package.
I also helped with beta testing the mod's. Really, a nice game to play now. My original copy ceased working so I had to go on Steam to get another copy ($8.99) and to my surprise along with it came the mod's and several of the maps (my better ones) I did up for the game. I guess I made maybe 20-25 maps for the game and uploaded to the web site. Along with the original game came a mapper that was so easy to use. Not many games come with a map maker now, why I don't know. After a game has been out for a while, the developers will release an SDK (System Development Kit) for the game but they do have a high learning curve to use. If some one has the game and wants some new maps, I'll see if I can upload them here for you.
Along with Earth 2160, I also have acquired Earth 2140, Earth 2150, and Lost Souls... A nice mapper comes with them also and I have made some maps for these products as well. These also were uploaded to the site as map packs. I'll gladly upload them to the site should anyone happen to acquire any of these games. In the mean time, some good links for you.
